Laura Stevens grew up in rural Eastern Ontario, where the quiet landscapes and open skies helped shape her early love of art. She studied Studio Arts at Sheridan Institute and went on to earn a BA in Fine Arts and Psychology from Bishop’s University. A few years later, she took part in an illustration intensive in Worcester, England, and then headed west for an internship with artist and gallery owner Wendy Wacko, through Mountain Galleries. It was during this time that she developed a deep connection with the Canadian art community.
After returning to Ontario, Stevens and her family settled in the small town of Finch, where she opened Victoria Street Studios. There, she continues to explore her own creative practice while also teaching workshops throughout the region. Her artwork has found its way into both public and private collections across Canada.
Laura Stevens' gestural paintings of bears and moose are full of energy and movement, brought to life with quick, confident brushstrokes and bold use of colour. Each piece is packed with vibrant lines and rich tones. Bright neons are mixed with more natural, earthy shades, capturing the spirit of each animal she paints. The mix of bold and subtle details creates a striking balance—something that feels both wild and quietly thoughtful.
