Nicole Laporte was born in Montreal in 1954, and currently resides in Rigaud, Quebec. Although drawing has always been a part of her daily life, Laporte waited until she was in her forties before leaving her profession as a clerk to devote herself entirely to painting. She took a few classes with Marcel Bourbonnais and then explored the possibilities of oil in a self-taught way.
Her surroundings and her happy family life experiences naturally orient her towards topics that revolve around childhood, games and strolls. Mixing her personal story with that of Quebec, Nicole Laporte features a bunch of happy kids, where adults come from time to time to take their place. Each of her paintings reveals a small moment of happiness taken on the spot, presented with candour and sincerity in which the viewer takes the time to immerse themselves, awakening a part of our childhood. Sometimes struck with a little nostalgia, we tell ourselves these familiar stories that have embellished the daily life of our childhood, especially if it was happy. The subjects of then paintings take us back to the 1920s, a real source of inspiration for Nicole Laporte, and is a great counterbalance to today's fast life.
