Liliane Fournier was born in 1942 in Manitoba, Canada, and later established her life and career in Quebec. From an early age, her artistic vocation was evident. In 1961, she enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal, where she began her formal training.
In 1975, Fournier spent two years in Asia studying the art of batik. This experience had a lasting impact on her work, as she adapted the technique to depict the landscapes of Quebec upon her return. By the early 1980s, her paintings were being exhibited in art galleries across Quebec.
In 1993, she was selected as one of 50 Canadian artists to participate in the International Biennial of Fine Arts at the Grand Palais in Paris. Following this recognition, she began regularly presenting successful solo exhibitions in galleries in Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal.
Fournier has also participated in several artist residencies. In 2011, she was Artist-in-Residence in Dina, Brittany. In 2012, she completed another residency in Saint-Mathieu, France, and in 2017 she was Artist-in-Residence in the city of Coaticook, Quebec.
