Craig Skinner was born in Montreal in 1954 and lives in the West Island in a small cottage on a quiet street, the same cottage he was born in. He loves the countryside, especially the Eastern Townships where he has built himself a picturesque cottage studio nestled by a lazy stream and a small waterfall where he spends most weekends getting inspired.
Craig attains the incredible depth and lighting in his artwork by meticulously applying layer upon layer of oil paint, rubbing and brushing until he achieves the desired effect. His paintings have a soft quality to them and often evoke feelings of peace and serenity in the viewer.
A simple snapshot – a moment in time and you are instantly brought into Craig’s world. By carefully choosing his subject matter and with the technique and skill of a master, Craig is able to evoke pure emotion.
At the age of six he was busy drawing whatever was in front of him. For several years Craig worked in the art department of a Montreal-based silk screening company honing his artistic eye. He eventually took the step to pursue a career as a freelance commercial artist. His eye for detail, balance and composition are in large part a result of his stint as a commercial artist. For the last 20 years or so Craig has devoted himself purely to his art, attaining huge success and recognition.
