David Grieve was introduced to oil painting at a young age. As a child he would often accompany his mother to a group oil painting class. At the age of nine he created his first oil painting and his love of creating blossomed throughout his adolescence.
David’s inspiration comes from driving through the ever-changing fields in Southern Ontario. He takes photos along the way and then uses these images to produce his impressionistic paintings. He has developed his own unique and distinctive multi-layered technique, applying thick swaths of oil paint to create his version of the “Contemporary Canadian Landscape”. He rarely cleans his brushes and as a result he achieves dramatic, chunky strokes of paint, a special characteristic the artist is known for.
David Grieve lives in Brantford Ontario with his wife and three sons. This is an area with a lot of sprawling farmland and forests which is where David finds his muse. They also spend lots of time at the studio/cabin in North Kawartha.
