From the intricate patterns of Persian rug weaving learned in childhood to decades of self-taught exploration, Davoud Khosravi has developed a distinctive voice in wooden sculpture. His work reflects both discipline and imagination, marrying geometric precision with organic movement in forms that are as timeless as they are contemporary.

Using a rich palette of woods such as maple, cherry, walnut, and mahogany, alongside striking exotics like bloodwood, purpleheart, wenge, and zebrawood, Davoud creates sculptural “vases” that highlight the natural beauty of each grain. Some rise tall and elegant, others are compact and strong, each one polished to a luminous finish that reveals a refined inner glow. Every piece is carefully constructed through techniques such as inlaying, laminating, carving, and turning, then brought to life on the lathe with meticulous shaping and sanding.

Inspired by nature, movement, and the human form, his freeform sculptures curve, billow, and fan into shapes that feel both familiar and abstract. This ability to balance technical mastery with evocative form has earned him recognition across North America. His honors include the Murray & Marvelle Koffler Founder’s Award (Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, 2003), Best of Wood (Toronto Outdoor Art Fair, 2014), the Niche Award (Philadelphia Arts & Craft Market, 2008), an Award of Excellence (St. Petersburg Arts Festival, 2007), Value & Versatility (Philadelphia Wood Show, 2007), and Best of Show (Cleveland Art Show, 2001).

Through every sculpture, Davoud Khosravi celebrates wood as a living medium—full of complexity, warmth, and possibility—transforming it into works of art that are both elegant and enduring.
